A short introduction

As is standard procedure in this sort of situation, I find the need to give all my readers a short biography.

I am currently a senior technical journalism major with aspirations to go to medical school. I spent the summer of ‘07 working in a bona fide Emergency Room in the state of Wyoming doing things that included: stitches, wound irrigation, splint setting, and anything else the nurses didn’t feel like accomplishing.  The pre-medical path is a tough mountain to climb. For those who don’t know: a brief synopsis is to take general science pre-req’s while volunteering and obtaining experience in the medical field, all while hoping that you’re doing something extra that no one else has thought of or had time to do. There are currently 150 medical schools in the US, each offering a maxium of 150 chairs in their freshman classes. There are 1,000 applicants to every chair, or so says the pre-med advisor on campus, Jim Zakley. The MCATs are the standardize tests of every psycology major’s nightmare, playing games with your head while simultaneously testing your prior science knowledge.

The first question many ask me is: Why? I ask myself the same question. The sarcastic, cheap answer is there isn’t anything else I am good at. Anatomy entralls me and I believe that if I have to wake up everyday for the rest of my life, I might as well be doing something helpful and interesting.
DISCLAIMER: I do feel the need to mention that I am not only employed by the Collegian, but am the Web Editor. As such I am in charge of all the blogs and therefore am under some pressure to produce a perfect blog. For all of you out there who are hoping to recieve this from me, it’s not going to happen. I apologize in advance for my failings, and hope to recieve just as much criticism as the rest. This blog is somewhat of a tester combined with an extra credit assignment. More interesting blog entries to come.

Peace Out.
